5. Autonomous Charging and High-Precision Control

The BQ24259 supports autonomous completion of battery charging cycles, whether or not managed by a host device. The charging process is automatically divided into three stages: pre-regulation (trickle charging), constant-current charging and constant-voltage charging. Charging is automatically terminated when the charging current during the constant-voltage stage falls below a preset threshold; a new charging cycle is automatically initiated when the battery voltage drops below the recharge threshold.

In terms of accuracy, the BQ24259 offers ±0.5% charging voltage regulation accuracy, ±7% charging current regulation accuracy and ±7.5% input current regulation accuracy.

6. Multiple Safety Protections

The chip incorporates comprehensive built-in safety protection mechanisms: battery temperature sensing (supporting both charging and OTG mode discharge), battery charging safety timer, thermal regulation and thermal shutdown, input and system overvoltage protection, MOSFET overcurrent protection, and more. Intermittent-mode overcurrent protection with ±15% accuracy further enhances system reliability.
